Another Dilly Bag

Last year I made myself a dilly bag. Today I managed to pick up some fabric I thought the boys would like really cheap. I have been meaning to make them one but haven't found the time.
Last year while on camp, one of the other leaders had a dilly bag with a pocket in it for the cutlery. What a great idea, no searching the bag for a spoon or knife when you need it. I added a pocket in this one too.

Christmas decorations

Just a quick post to show you what we did at coffee group on Monday. We made little wreathes and Christmas trees from buttons. They were quite simple, just thread wire through the buttons. The wreath needs a little bow at the top and it's finished. The trees look fine the way they are.

Blake made this one. Not bad for a 4 year old.

Cake decorating

Today we had a lady come to teach us some cake decorating. We learned some simple ideas that made the cakes look really good.

Blue theme

Every year we go away for the June long weekend for a geocaching event. They have a different theme every year for the award night.
This year there is a blue theme. I was thinking of making some beanies with some geckos stitched on them. I made up a pattern and was having a play around making the geckos. I couldn't get the feet right so I just left them flat. This is what I have come up with so far.

Dilly bag

So I haven't done a post for a while, I have been so busy I haven't had time for craft.
Finally today I had a chance to sit down and sew, I started off sewing the badges on to my scout shirt, I only just got invested on Wednesday to be a scout leader. If I don't do it now I never will.
I had this really cool fabric with geckos on it but never knew what to use it for. Well I decided it would make a good dilly bag seeing as my leader name is Gecko.

What is a dilly bag?

A dilly bag is a cloth draw string bag, preferably a natural cloth like cotton. Natural cloth is preferred because it breathes allowing your gear to stay dry without going mouldy! Net bags are not desirable because dust, dirt and bugs get in easily.

The dilly bag is used to transport and store your camp eating gear. Inside your dilly bag should be a plate, bowl, cup, cutlery and tea towel.
Going to and from camp you might also have a tea towel or two in your bag, but they must come out and be hung up in the camp kitchen or eating shelter once you arrive.

Heres my new dilly bag:

Fin Hats

So last year my then 4 year old son wanted me to make him a fin hat. Whats a Fin hat? I had no idea but my 13 year old daughter was nice enough to send me a tutorial off you tube, I then googled and found a template. Fin is a character of a show called Adventure time, strangest cartoon I have ever watched and not sure it is really suitable for children.

Makayla and Bailey in their Fin hats.

So I made one, then another, then Jordan wanted a Jake hat.

OK so that was 3 kids sorted, now Blake. He is a dinosaur freak so I thought I would make him a dinosaur hat.

Blake's Dinosaur Hat.
The dinosaur hat turned out really good but was a bit tricky to make, as was the Jake hat.

I just got word I will be in the Windemere community markets which is at the local school. I thought I would make some fin hats and see how they go. I have cut out a few in different colours also. Now just to find time to sew them together.

Painted Canvas

At coffee group we have been making a canvas with a saying on it.
It could be anything you like. Last week we painted our canvases, some ladies stuck pages from a book on theirs or scrap booking papers.
I painted mine purple of couse because it is my favourite colour.
This week we finished it off. I printed out the words I was going to use and took them in with me this morning. I then traced it onto some contact, I cut it out with a craft knife.

And then the fun part, sticking the contact on to the canvas.

I actually dont mind it this colour.
Now to put the black paint on and hope it doesn't go underneath the contact.

Well it did a little bit but it still looks good.
